Porta Vetus Auximon and the Fortress

Porta Vetus Auximon is much more than a simple access point: it is a symbolic threshold that introduces visitors to the millenary history of Osimo. Its Latin name, "ancient Osimo," immediately evokes the deep roots of the city, once a powerful Roman stronghold. Passing through this gateway means taking a leap back in time, imagining the passage of generations of Osimo residents, travelers, and soldiers who for centuries traveled this same route to enter the protected heart of the urban center.

The gate is not an isolated element, but the starting point of an imposing defensive system that culminates in the Rocca Pontelliana. Just beyond the threshold, one finds oneself before the Renaissance fortress, the apex of the city walls that encircled the city.
